Connection EdVentures' Genesis

Connection EdVentures is the brainchild of Dr. Annie Miller. As a working mother who values family time, she states:

“We always joked that with kids there were two kinds of travel: trips and vacations. Trips are fun AND exhausting; they require extreme levels of planning, packing, navigating, and hidden costs, and can lead to burnout. I remember joking after several trips that I wished we’d just stayed home because it was so hard to juggle everything while away. Vacations, on the other hand, are the opportunities where you truly get away, relax, unwind, enjoy each other’s company, and feel energized when you get home. These vacations seemed rare, and we often felt that true family vacations with younger kids were nearly impossible. I realized that my precious time away from work with my family was increasingly becoming trips rather than vacations. So I started this company as a professor who leads study abroad programs for college students to help more families take vacations rather than trips. Let’s have more fun with our families and learn a little something while doing it!”

The Programs

The vacations Connection EdVentures offers are intended to help families build deeper connections with each other, with our fellow travelers, and with the people and ecosystems we visit. Packages provide educational, cultural, and spiritual opportunities during all vacations that will challenge each traveler differently. To meet those challenges, we provide every traveler with new skills, tools, prompts, and time for reflection to grow as a human in connection with the world.

The Mission

Connection EdVentures' stated mission is to challenge people to practice becoming stronger, deeply connected, and more open versions of themselves through travel. In doing so, Connection EdVentures will:

  • fairly compensate our staff and our partners for their time and effort;
  • leave fewer traces of our physical presence in the places we visit to sustain and protect our planet;
  • care for each other;
  • be willing to hear difficult feedback and positive affirmations;
  • be present for the now and set intentions for the future;
  • and most importantly, have an INSANELY FUN VACATION!!!
